Our Sailing Itinerary: Plan B
The original plan was to base ourselves in a great marina and make day trips to cozy, quiet bays to enjoy some solitude in nature. However, upon arrival, reality adjusted our plans, and we had to pivot to Plan B. Looking back, Plan B turned out even better than what we had originally imagined!
We kept our core philosophy intact: short, comfortable coastal hops (no long, exhausting 8-hour distances), plenty of time for swimming, and a balanced rhythm alternating between wild bays and cozy towns.
The Route Day-by-Day
- Saturday: Yacht check-in, handover, and provisioning. The main objective was to get the entire crew gathered on board by the evening.
- Sunday: Setting sail westward towards the town of Datça. Halfway through the journey, we stop for our first overnight stay in a quiet, secluded bay, anchoring with lines secured to the shore.
- Monday: An early morning start as we continue our passage west. We dock at the Datça Municipal Marina, right in the heart of the town, to explore, unwind, and enjoy a touch of civilization.
- Tuesday: Continuing our journey west to the ancient port of Knidos, located at the very tip of the Datça Peninsula where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. We’ll wander through the open-air museum, catch a stunning sunset, and have dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight stay at anchor.
- Wednesday: Weighing anchor to head back towards civilization, returning to the already familiar town of Datça. Restaurants, cafes, fresh coffee, cheesecakes, and even gyms—everything is within a five-minute walk.
- Thursday: A passage from Datça to a new, quiet, wild bay. It’s the perfect time to disconnect from civilization again, swim in crystal-clear waters, and practice anchoring techniques with lines to the shore.
- Friday: Our final day at sea. We head back to our home marina in Orhaniye, stopping at the fuel dock to top up the tanks, hand the yacht back to the charter company, and enjoy a final farewell dinner with the crew.
- Saturday: Early morning check-out. We leave the boat and head to the airport, or continue exploring Turkey independently.
Trip Highlights & Life on Board
Exploring & Relaxing: We have a SUP (stand-up paddleboard) on board for exploring the shallow waters of hidden coves. And for those who want to learn, it’s a stress-free environment to try steering the boat or helping with the anchor. But if you just want to lie on deck with a book and watch the pine-covered hills go by, that is perfectly fine too.
Pure Freedom: One of the best experiences is making a stop out in the open sea, a few miles from the coast. There is an incredible feeling when you jump off the boat into pristine, deep blue water, knowing there’s over 200 meters of ocean beneath you and absolutely nobody else around for miles.
Sleeping Under the Stars: The nights spent in the wild bays are truly special. It’s a level of quiet you just can’t get in the city. While the cabins are comfortable, hanging a hammock right from the mast and falling asleep on deck—gently rocked by the sea with the Milky Way right above you—is an amazing experience.
